Movies and Munchies: Horror Movie Screening at Canaan Colonial Theatre
Sure, you can watch a campy 80’s horror movie in April, but it just doesn’t hit like it does in October. The nights turn dark earlier, you need a blanket on the couch because even though it’s freezing in your house you refuse to turn on the heat yet, and you can swear during your mid-movie bathroom break that there is someone outside, lurking in the bushes. There’s nothing better! So, we knew we had to plan a Movie and Munchie screening at The Canaan Colonial Theatre this October. Our choice: Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.
The History of the Canaan Colonial Theatre
The Canaan Colonial Theatre is a historically significant part of the region. Opened all the way back in 1923, the theater, then known as The Casino, was an entertainment hub, offering movie screenings, bowling, and a ballroom. Though the theater has gone through renovations, refittings, and ultimately 2 different closings, it was opened again in 2023, exactly 100 years later. With all the original charm that the theater carried throughout all the years, The Canaan Colonial Theatre transports you back in time, giving you a movie-going experience like you used to have.
This charm and tight-knit community feel from the theater is exactly why The Pass has already hosted 2 successful movie nights there, screening Dazed and Confused and Super Troopers. With help from the theater, we have made these Movies and Munchie nights more than just the screening, offering themed concessions and giveaways in the lobby of the theater.

The Pass Partnership with NerdyVisions Gallery
This time around, we are co-sponsoring the screening with local tattoo and special effects shop NerdyVisions Gallery, who are just mere steps away from the theater. Owner of NerdyVisions, Joe Murph, is a huge horror movie fan, making this partnership as perfect as Jason Voorhees and his machete. Joe’s tattoo shop is filled with incredible artwork, much of it horror-movie themed, including a large portion of his tattoo flash.
NerdyVisions Gallery will be putting a lot of this artwork on display in the lobby on movie night, making sure to set the tone for the horrors that will come!

A Halloween Themed Month at The Pass
Movie and Munchie nights are totally free to attend, so all you have to do is show up, eat classic concessions, enter our giveaways, get free (non-infused) goodies including our VIP card, and have your socks scared off! We wanted to show a classic 80’s movie for this screening, and one that hasn’t played in theaters in our area in quite a long time. As one of the most well-received installments of the Friday the 13th series, The Final Chapter has all the classic Jason Voorhees moments, props, and deaths. From our perspective, there’s no better way to spend the week leading up to Halloween than joining us for our Movie and Munchies night.
In addition to our end-of-month Movie and Munchie night, be sure to check out our horror movie and strain pairings all month long, pairing some of our favorite strains with their horror movie counterparts. But the strain of the week and get a mystery pre-roll for only $1.
